History and a Devotion

28 April 1789 Mutiny on the Bounty

Timothy Sowers

This seven-minute Podcast focuses on the history of the HMS Bounty. The mutiny occurred in the South Pacific Ocean on 28 April 1789. Acting Lieutenant Fletcher Christian seized control of the ship from their captain, Lieutenant William Bligh, and set him and eighteen loyalists adrift in the ship's open launch.  Fletcher Christian and his small group of mutineers eventually settled on Pitcairn Island, 1,300 miles east of Tahiti. The devotion based on this historical event is grounded on Jesus' words found in John 14:1ff. "Let not your hearts be troubled."
